Eve Online Video

Which video game is the better out of the 2?
My birthday is coming up and there are 2 video games that sound awesome, and i need to know which one is better in your guy's opinion. which one is better? World of Warcraft or Eve Online?
There are dozens of MMOs out there. It just depends on what type of gaming experience you are looking for.
WoW is by far the most populay MMO ever. There are lots of very dedicated players. The game is very easy to get in to and leads you along quite well. If you prefer a more "themepark" game where it's always obvious where to go and what to do, WoW is more the game for you. It's easy to play (user experience, not game difficulty).

EVE Online is a much more niche game. The players are often very dedicated, many sticking with the game for years. EVE is more in the "sandbox" category of MMOs, where the players are given the tools and resources and you are expected to create your own game. EVE is sometimes described as harsh and cold. You (currently) have no in-game avatar. Your player is only represented by the ship you fly (which is interchangeable). There are real consequences to death in game. If your ship gets blown up, you lose that ship forever (you can buy another). However, for those players that are dedicated to making it past the steep learning curve, there is a very rich experience to be had. The game universe is not sharded in the traditional sense, meaning that anyone in the world that plays the game plays in the same universe (except China - legal reasons). The market system is one of the most complex systems in any game, adding a whole level of "professions" that deal just with buying and selling goods. Almost every player ship, module (gun/armor), player owned station, etc., is created by other players from raw materials mined in game (which are both "professions" in their own way).
Many people have a hard time with EVE. The user interface is difficult to learn and a little awkward, but it's a necessary evil. Skill training happens in real time, so it can take some time to fly bigger ships effectively.
If you want to create your own gaming experience and have the freedom to go anywhere, do anything, and create your own destiny, check out EVE.

There are lots of other games in the MMO genre. You may find one that you prefer over these two. Check out www.massively.com for a list and reviews of many of the games in the MMO category. One in particular that has piqued my curiosity of late is Lord of the Rings Online, which is transitioning in to a free-to-play business model.
