Any MMORPGs out there that are not just a 'level treadmill'?
I played Ultima Online for about 7 years, they screwed up that game so bad it is now just a heaven for AOL punks...
I have played EVE-Online for about 8 months now, but I am getting bored with never being able to leave my ship... lack of character/ship customization... it is a good game but not really my style...
I am thinking about trying out a new game, but I HATE HATE HATE the EverQuest 'model' of play mechanics that seems to be rampant in the industry... games like Asherons Call, EQ, EQ2, Dark Age of Camelot, Final Fantasy XI... ect...
I played Final Fantasy for quite a while because my wife liked it, but it got to the point that after level 15 it was totally impossible to play without forming a group of 5 people...
So I am looking for suggestions of games... that you can play Solo if you like, and that are a bit more creative than EverQuest with different pictures.
Too bad they didnt make Elder Scrolls: Oblivion a MMORPG.
I agree and disagree - I love Oblivion, but I don't think its charm would be there as an MMORPG. It's such a great game as is, I have a feeling if they tried to make it port to an MMO format it would collapse... Like trying to move a house of cards once its been built.
To answer your question, I would recommend Star Wars Galaxies. It's a great game I had a blast playing for the year and a half that I did (I ran out of time to keep playing when life caught up with me, so I let my account lapse)... The nice thing about the level system is that there is no "level 1, level 20, level X". You pick the classes you want to master and gain experience in them, and once you hit certain xp levels you can train in that "box". You get a certain number of AP and each box takes up 1-15 AP. I think it's 250 AP total, which usually amounts to being able to master a novice skill, 2 master skills above it, and a few other random skills. If you don't like your character's set up or just want to change things to keep it interesting, you can surrender skills to recover that AP and train in a new class. It's a very intuitive system that I think works better than any other I've seen for an MMORPG, especially since it allows for versatile characters, changing your profession if you decide to, and prevents a gap where players who have been at it for 2 years already aren't going to always be levels and levels ahead of you - once you hit master, you're as much of a master as anyone else. The challenge is in finding the best equipment and good complementary skill sets. Also, the commerce system in SWG is one of the best I've seen.

should i go to aion, question has to be 20 characters?
ok ive played Wow and got to high lvl, and i kinda bores me doing the same thing over and over again everything is easy and just wastes my time in wow, i played EVE online too and love the economic system in the game but the rest of the game is boring. So my real questions is, how close is Aion to Wow and should i switch from Wow to Aion? (if u say anything about runescape ill hunt you down >:) )
Both wow and Aion are good games. for me Aion is simply more entertaining than wow. If you ever played EQ back in the day you willl love Aion. people who are used to wow have problems with level 30+ due to grind times (if you have played EQ its nothing by compairison) if you would like a trial post up and email address and ill send you a code tomorrow.
